I'm making some improvements in this newsletter. I hope you like them. I've created three new sections. They are short, but sweet and powerful. LifeBytes is an online version of my LifeBites: On Stage, where I help audiences shapeshift from problems to solutions quickly and gracefully. In this section, I offer a quick life lesson. If you want to know more, you can click on the link at the end of the short life lesson, and you will get more information or an exercise to help you implement the life lesson to your life. This issue's LifeByte is: Your relationships are your Greatest Treasure. The second new section is Stories to Inspire You. In my life I meet a lot of inspiring people. When I mentioned the story about Dan Caro to my friends, they were so energized and uplifted that I decided that YOU too could probably used stories like this. The media paints a world in which people are out for themselves, minorities are crooks and good people are victims of bad things. I am on a campaign to counter this sensationalist trance. People helping People features organizations and people who are helping people in our communities. As October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, in this issue we present the organization Safe Horizon, a leader in helping victims of domestic violence. In New York for Fall? For those of you who speak Spanish and like poetry, Boricua College presents a Poetry Botánica's production: Rutas Esenciales, Julia y Lorca y sus herederos. Don't miss this magical, inspiring poetry soiree. I'll be reading from my upcoming poetry book and featuring a participatory installation, and Corazon will be dancing in home of Lorca and Julia. November 9, 2009 Boricua College presents a Poetry Botánica production:
Rutas esenciales: Julia y Lorca y sus herederos
La Botánica Poética/The Poetry Botánica presents an extraordinary encounter among poets from Granada, Spain and Puerto Rican poets living in the United States and in the island of Puerto Rico. In a homage to Federico Garcia Lorca and Julia de Burgos, these poets will share their art. Enjoy poetry, theatre, dance, visual arts, wine and hors d'oeuvre. There will be books and art for sale.
Invited guest Poets: Myrna Nieves, Maria Mar, Nancy Mercado, Magaly Quiñones (with Nélida Cortés in the guitar) and Pedro Enríquez (Spain)

LifeByte #1 Your Relationships are your Greatest Treasure We know that our relationships with family, friends and loved ones are our greatest gift, for there is no other gift greater than love. What few of us consider, however, is that relationships are the Sacred Vehicle for prosperity. The source for prosperity, of course, is God or Goddess, the Universal Consciousness in all creation. Prosperity is deeply connected to relationships because wealth is created as the result of an exchange between people.
Now that we are close to the Day of the Dead, it is a good time to examine the relationship patterns we inherit. Families have specific perceptions about "outsiders" and create unique contracts with the world. These are usually inherited untouched or lightly touched via generations. These inherited beliefs affect the way you respond to others.
What did you learn to expect from strangers? Do you expect others to value you, to remunerate you justly and joyfully, and to trust you? Or did you learn to expect betrayal, to be cheated or undervalued? Do you expect others to receive you or to reject you? Do you usually place more attention in rejections and miscommunications or in harmonious, loving exchanges? Carefully examine your expectations about relationships, and you will find the core of your issues with prosperity.

The Man who Drums Without Hands Dan Caro
Dan Caro was born in Metairie, La. on November Sixteenth, 1979. At the age of two, an unthinkable event would change his life forever.
While in the family garage, the pilot light of a hot water heater ignited gasoline fumes and Dan sustained third degree burns to over seventy percent of his body.
Ultimately, as a result of the burn injuries, Dan lost his right hand, most of his left hand and is severely scarred. His new book, The Gift of Fire: How I made Adversity Work for Me, tells Dan story in his own words.
While this accident took away Dan's hands, ears, nose and most of his skin, it did not mark his spirit. Dan has been living life to the fullest in the face of his adversity. His relentless attitude and resiliency would consistently prove that nothing is impossible; including his lifelong dream of becoming a musician.
Dan, at the age of twelve, began drumming in spite of his loss of fingers. He plays by using the left thumb to grip one drum stick, with the other drum stick attached to his right wrist by a wrist band and rubber bands. With this simple device and an undying passion for music, Dan has become a very respected drummer in the New Orleans area. His unique personal style and musicianship has landed him countless gigs with some of the world’s greatest performers.
Dan is also an inspirational speaker and ambassador to the
Shriner's Hopsital, where he was cared for during his childhood.
